The Real Original Superman Suit

the first superman shield
Superman was invented by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1934, they created a short story called "The Reign Of The Superman" about a bald-headed villain bent on dominating the world. The story did not sell, forcing the two to rethink their character on the right side of the law. The revised Superman originally appeared in Action Comics on June 1, 1938. They sold the rights to the company for $130.
In some of the first sketches of Superman’s suit, most of the major design cues are there, except for the symbol on his chest. In the original designs, the “S” was housed in a police badge-styled shape. This is the real original superman suit.

George Reeves as Superman

George Reeves as Superman
George Reeves was the first man to play Superman on screen, he was one of the most popular actors to play Superman and it just might be because of his mysteries death rather than his acting abilities.
One of the facts about George that a lot of people get wrong is they think he's his Superman successor Christopher Reeve's father or at least a brother but truth be told they didn't even know each other.
When George Reeves played the man of steel in the 1950’s, He wears the typical superman suit; red cap, yellow belt, symbol on the chest. The main color is a
quite pale blue.

The Man of Steel Christopher Reeve

I watched all the Christopher Reeve superman films again recently.
There are many great version of Superman in the 75 years of history, from many great artists. Many of them are equally great but different, however, Reeve looked perfect as Clark Kent / Superman to me. He looked like he stepped right out of the pages of a Superman comic.

Superman Comics
Superman Comics
His version of superman suit is the most typical one; red cap, yellow belt, big symbol on the chest, Simple but comfortable. Crime fighters have to be comfortable. He won't have any weird mesh or leather getting in the way. Man of Steel is all about flexibility and speed, and this superman movie costume is a perfect reflection of that.

Christopher Reeve was awesome in HIS version of Superman, and nobody could put on THAT superman suit and do what he did any better. He was and always shall be Superman for me. Though you've been taken from this world, your portrayal of Superman will still live on.

Does the Old Superman Costume Now Look Weird to You?

The new Superman Movie Man of Steel hits theaters June 14. This is the film I'm most looking forward to this summer.
When the new Superman costume first revealed, I wondered if I'd ever get used to seeing Superman without the trunks. After all, he'd had red trunks since 1938. At first, seeing him without the trunks was weird.

With the new trunks-less images strictly enforced in ALL media (comics, animation, toys, publicity, and of course the MAN OF STEEL movie), I must say: now the original red trunks are starting to look awkward to me in a way they never did before, while, in contrast, the new super suit looked natural and normal.

The old superman costume is a classic, although it had some variations on its resistance and other minor details sans the S-shield, it remained virtually unchanged and represents Superman's 75 years history. But the new superman suit has grown on me. It retains most of the classic elements, looks more modernized and more alien. The only problem is that I think adding a belt would make a big difference to this new suit.
